STANNIS IS THE TRUE KING: tumblrofthrones: ahappychildhood: tumblrofthrones: I know that there…

I know that there are totally valid reasons to dislike Ros’s use as an exposition and for being an underdeveloped character, but it feels like so much of the criticism has this nasty undertone of judgment and disgust. Just…

Take, for example, the scene with Ros and Pycelle in last season’s finale. What did we get from it? Why not, instead, focus on making Robb’s coronation (okay, it’s not really a coronation because there was no crown but whatever) longer, and having Catelyn SAY something there, and there being an actual debate until the Greatjon decides to declare independence from the Iron Throne?

The purpose of that scene was to remind everyone of the Targaryen back story about dragons and their words, Fire and Blood. It was the title of the episode, and of course it ended with the birth of the dragons. Showing Pycelle was a player in his own way was just a bonus.

And she isn’t stealing screen time from anyone except for Chataya and Alayaya. Having her doesn’t keep out the Reeds or some other people. She serves a purpose. If it weren’t her in the scene, it would be some anonymous featured-extra character. And none of the screen time reasons mean much to me when people are wishing death on Ros, wishing she’d be given to the Mountain, etc, and people being generally gross about her. There is so much sexist bullshit attached to the judgement of her.

Just really puts me off, especially since you rarely see people jump on other exposition scenes- just the ones involving Ros.

I think my only issue with ros was her replacement of two roles that should have gone to POC. I understand that they can’t cast everyone but this was a complete letdown because alayaya and chataya were strong females who owned their sexuality and ran the brothel.

Oh yeah that’s an issue. But I’m not talking about people who would’ve preferred Alayaya and Chataya (Actually I would’ve preferred them too.) Guys who don’t even care about those two women ranting about Ros having screen time and wanting her killed are my problem. Makes my skin crawl.

patrickstormborn replied to your post: I know that there are totally valid reasons to…

she hasn’t even been naked this season but she’s still getting slut shamed, ugh

God yeah, I’ve seen so many comments this season about ‘naked Ros’ and she hasn’t been unclothed once, not that she deserved shitty comments even when she was nude more often. I’m seriously icked out by people who every time she comes up, they hope for her death. Not that she’s written out, but that she’s killed. Some fucked up fools running around the internet.

So today, 28 May 2012, after years of wanting it… this finally happened. My first tattoos.
The first is on my left thigh, and the second is on my right thigh.
but first we’ll live.

The first, spoken by Ygritte in A Storm of Swords, is a snippet from my favourite quotation in the series. I really took it to heart when I first read the series; it struck me as a reminder that if I live in fear of tomorrow, I would never live life to the fullest. Instead, I live life and take it day by day, and live in the present. I live in the here and the now and nothing matters more than this very moment. Sure, tomorrow is inevitable, but there’s no point in wasting today away and holding back in fear now, only to live in regret later. It’s Carpe Diem at its finest. Or ASOIAF-est.

one step and then another, and i will not fall.

The second is a thought from Jon Snow in A Clash of Kings. For me, the message is twofold. I’ve wanted this as a tattoo for ages, because it’s a reminder for me to take things as they come, to not let things overwhelm me. As long as I take things step by step, I’ll get through, I’ll succeed. And then secondly, after my accident in January that dislocated my knee and had me in crutches, these words mean even more to me in a literal sense. (That’s why I got it on my right thigh, because my right leg is the injured one).

Both tattoos mean so much to me on a personal level, as a reminder to keep buggering on and live life to the fullest, but then, in equal measure, they’re both excerpts from one of my favourite book series, from my two favourite characters. The font is Little Sparrow, which I chose because it had such a wildling-y, imperfect feel to it.
It’s a win/win, and I couldn’t be happier with my first tattoos. :)

I love the font and quote choices. Love it.

nothingplanned asked: I'm going to assume you would know for sure. But who was that dragging Stannis away at the end of the episode? I'm not sure if I'm supposed to know them/who's side they're on. Are they dragging Stannis to face punishment or friends forcing him to retreat?

Those were his own men trying to save him.

What I’d like to know: Who is Sandor’s random groupie?

that’s what I was wondering. (his squire maybe?)

Ha!  My sister emailed me about this while she was watching the episode: “Who was with the hound??  DID HE GET A FRIEND???”
I was thinking squire too, but the idea that he has a groupie, or literally only one friend (who isn’t a Stark girl) is amusing to me…

His armorer? The man who just sold him Stranger?
We have decided his name is Brad. Brad Lannister. Why so sullen, Brad?

Fine, it’s official. Sandor has one friend and his name is Brad, and Brad doesn’t complain when Sandor tells the same stories about growing up with Gregor all the time.

“And then Gregor set his pony on fire—”
“—while he was on it.”
“I WAS THE ONE TELLING THE STORY SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DRINK.”

No, little Brad. I wouldn’t hurt you

…with rape jokes.

“If the city falls, these women will be in for a bit of a rape,”

“If anyone dies with a clean sword, I’ll rape his fucking corpse!”

What is wrong with me?!

Brace yourselves

Angry girls on the internet are coming

Pffft, they came and went.  Maybe someday, us feminists will learn that attacking other people’s brand of feminism isn’t getting us anywhere.

“Other people’s brand of feminism”

On what planet, in what universe, is it feminist to laugh at harmful rape jokes…or laugh at the threat of rape when it’s obviously not a joke. How is “if the city falls, these women will be raped” funny to you? Rape as a war tactic is something that actually happened in wartime and something that still happens. It’s severely traumatic for survivors of war.

You’re joking and laughing at an epidemic, something that affects 1 in 5 women. You’re joking about violent crimes that are difficult to prosecute because of rape culture, under which these so-called “jokes” are classified. You’re expecting people to laugh along with you, because you find someone else’s degradation, humiliation and trauma funny.

How fucking dare you sit there and behave as though people replying to you—calmly explaining why this shit isn’t funny—are attacking your brand of special snowflake feminism where you get to laugh about something that degrades and traumatises people? How dare you behave like you’re so enlightened because you can laugh about rape and those who can’t are obviously the ones doing something wrong.

Yeah I’ve seen a lot of comments acting as though Cersei’s comment was a joke, and it’s like, “Seriously?” She was pretty clearly saying something horrible to Sansa. And Sandor’s comment was in character for him, but that doesn’t mean it’s funny. He says horrible things too. He has layers as a character, but saying and doing horrible things is what he’s good at, as he reminded us himself in “Blackwater.”

There are definitely different types of feminism, but I don’t really see what the turning rape into a joke thing has to do with it.
