Users Online Tumblr of Thrones, It’s also implied that Cat was suspicious of Ned’s intent regarding Jon. Kings can legitimize bastards. Her husband was BFFs with the King. He could have easily asked Robert to legitimize Jon and Robert would have done it, screwing over Bran and Rickon in the process. I don’t think Ned would have done anything like that, but considering how secretive he was being about the whole situation, it was irrational of Cat to want to protect her OWN children’s birthrights.

Oh yeah, that’s a good point. I’ve got to reread AGoT one of these days- still mired in my ADwD reread. The possibility of legitimization when Jon was so closed to Robb’s age would be a concern. Yeah I agree Ned wouldn’t do that but he was close-mouthed about Jon, so Cat is reasonable to worry.
