Re: Tywin and Cersei ; really, the thing about Tywin is that he’s smart enough to make practical choices. He brought peace to the realm when he was Hand under Aerys, but that’s because making the realm prosper is the smart thing to do when you’re governing, not because he cared about the people. He’s a complete bastard, but he’s very intelligent.
He has cunning, yes. Staying alive and in power under Aerys is pretty impressive. The Lannisters are usually pretty smart; it’s one of their best traits.

To add to that ask about Cersei+morality, I know there’s at least a fan theory that says that Cersei herself planned to imprison Ned, which is not all that shocking honestly, and that Joffrey was the one who went rogue and ordered his execution??

It’s generally agreed that Ned was supposed to join the Night’s Watch and that would’ve been that. It was only Joffrey’s last-minute stunt that killed Ned; it wasn’t planned ahead of time. It’s possible that someone like Littlefinger put the idea into Joffrey’s head, but I don’t think Cersei did. They knew Ned would out of the way nicely in the NW. Creating a martyr the way Joff did was just silly.

Making of Game of Thrones Season 3, Vlog #1: Art Direction

ok my friend and i were having an argument about Joff, if he was right to behead Ned. what’s your opinion on it. i do think Jofferey is a twat but he is the king. he’s been told all his life that he would be king after Robert dies, and when he does become king, Ned comes and claims that he isn’t the rightful king and that he wasn’t even a lannister. the same with Tywin. i dont necessarily see him as a villain. i mean thousands of northerners were marching to kill his daughter and grandchildren

Tywin is a villain for many reasons. He wages war illegally with Gregor Clegane as his tool (raiding and killing without banners to deflect blame), and Tywin’s just generally an asshole and the worst dad ever. But he didn’t really have anything to do with Ned’s execution, so separate issue.

Most of the major Westeros players who don’t even like Ned seem to agree that executing him was a bad idea. He became a rallying point for othersl, a martyr for people to hold up. As a continued hostage, they had control over the Starks to a degree, and if he’d gone to the NW, Robb wouldn’t have a whole lot of ground to stand on, rebellion-wise since his father was released, albeit under limited circumstances. Executing Ned wasn’t a good way to secure Joff’s throne, it was a childish reaction to someone making him mad.

Joffrey is a villain for a bunch of other reasons, starting with his shitty behavior toward Arya, Mycah and Nymeria and then later his atrocious behavior toward Sansa, Dontos and more. Joff doesn’t think politically, he thinks personally. Acting to keep the throne when it really wasn’t his doesn’t make him particularly a good guy. It’s not like he wanted to be stay king so he could lead his people well or anything. He wanted to keep his toys.

I knew I had seen those boots before!
